How Outsies is built to protect people

Public meeting places

Activity locations must be public meeting places such as parks, plazas, or venue entrances. Home addresses are not allowed, and the app warns hosts to never share one.

Join approval where required

Hosts can require approval for every join request. Your request stays pending until the host accepts or rejects it.

Group chat restricted to accepted participants

Group chat opens only after you are accepted, and it is limited to the host and accepted participants.

Blocking and reporting

Block people you do not want to hear from. Reporting is available for unsafe or inappropriate activities and messages, and reports include moderation evidence.

Account deletion

You can delete your account from the app, which removes your identifying account data.

Meetup safety guidance

Before meeting someone new, keep these basics in mind:

  • Always meet in the listed public, well-lit place and stay around other people.
  • Arrange your own transportation so you can leave whenever you need to.
  • Watch your drinks and belongings, and do not accept open drinks from strangers.
  • Keep communication in Outsies so messages can be preserved if you report.
  • Trust your instincts. Leave if you feel unsafe.
  • For immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

An important limitation

Outsies does not perform background checks and does not guarantee another person's identity, behavior, or safety. Safety features make meetups easier to do responsibly, but you decide whether a meetup is right for you.
